HOLIDAY PHOTOS & NEWS

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, SPRING 2001

This Spring, BfG hosted three groups of fly-fishers and several non-anglers during the last two weeks in March and the first week of April. All were newcomers to Eleuthera except Chris Bradford who caught his first bonefish with us last November .

The groups of photos are separated into three groups, one group for each week. Click a photo to view it full size, then "exit" or "minimise" the photo to return to this page.

WEEK 1 (w/c 17th March)

Alan & Sharon Booth join BfG & Anne.....

When applying sunscreen, best not to get any on your hands! Sunday, Alan hooks his 1st bone at beautiful Ten Bay .....and lands it - a two pounder Wednesday at Hatchet Bay - a bigger fish - 3lb - after a long hard fight Sunset over Hatchet Bay Friday, BfG, Sharon, Alan & Anne at Rainbow Inn BfG with a 3lb bone caught behind the airport between Alan & Sharon taking off and the next team arriving

WEEK 2 (w/c 24th March)

Brad & Elisa Shannon, Richard & Debbie Chapman......

Sunday, Brad playing his 1st bone at Ten Bay ....a small fish but good fun on light tackle ....just under 2lb, the 1st of 4 Brad caught on his first day! Monday, back at Ten Bay Elisa hooks her 1st bone ....a nice two-pounder Tuesday, Gregory Town harbour - Debbie hooks her 1st bone on her 1st attempt ....a happy Debbie displays her 1st bone - 2lb (same size a Elisa's) Brad hooks a stronger fish.... ....and after 5 minutes lands a three pounder Richard hooks another hard-fighting bone... ....but it turns out to be the smallest of our 3 week trip!

WEEK 3 (w/c 31st March)

Chris Bradford, Michael Schultz & Dean Derardi......

Chris, Mike, Dean & BfG Monday, Mike & Dean with a double-hook-up at Ten Bay Both fish were played out but Mike's slipped the hook while waiting for Dean to land his. Thursday, Chris returns to GHB where he landed 4 sizeable bones on Tuesday but the fish were very spooky and he did well to hook this one... .....just a small one but still worth a kiss on the lips (Chris was getting desperate after nearly a week away from Patsie) After a long drive we found the fish more accommodating in a bay near Rock Sound - Chris landed this one out of a school and BfG lost a very big single Friday - Mike's hooks his 3rd bone of the day in a rocky bay near Governor's Harbour.... ....and landed this lovely three pounder ....BfG then had a cast at a cruising fish and hooked-up a few feet from the rod top..... ....another 3lb bonefish...then another identical fish an hour or so later..... ....then back to the jeep for a well earned belated lunch. Mike & Dean's last night at Rainbow Inn (Chris Dean, Mike & BfG) Saturday, Chris patiently stalked a small school of sizeable 'tailers' and eventually hooked one.... ....his biggest bonefish - 3½lb - a great way to end the week

For those who are interested in statistics:

Every angler caught bonefish on fly. Chris Bradford, one of the quickest learners I have ever fished with, landed 13 bones to 3½lb. Brad, who had not bonefished before, landed 10. Richard, a novice fly angler, caught the biggest (4½lb) and the smallest. Mike & Dean had the only double hook up and "saw" the most needlefish (private joke)! Alan & BfG were the wettest by getting caught in a tropical storm at Pelican Cay. Dean managed without his luggage for the longest period of time (6 days), congratulations USAir!
