ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, SPRING 2003

(updated April 25, 2003)

This Spring, BfG hosted 4 anglers: Barry Lloyd, Danny Barber, Garry "Needlefish" Scholes & Peter "The Doc" Goodwin for 13 days commencing March 29. All four had bone-fished with Graham before but only Garry had fished Eleuthera at this time of year. It was soon apparent that the fishing was going to be hard because there were so many other anglers on the island - some of whom did not practice the un-written rules of angling etiquette. However, thanks to our increasing knowledge of how the ever changing weather and tidal conditions affect the different flats, we managed to catch more fish (per angler) than usual....

Danny & G both lost fish before lunch, then moved to Governor's Harbour... ...Peter with his first bone of the trip (this was his smallest fish) Danny hooks a fish near Anchor Bay... ...and lands his first bone of the trip... ...and another one... ...a bit bigger. Gregory Town: Capt.Z diving for Peter's snagged fly... ...and retrieves it. Mission accomplished! near Governor's Harbour: Garry hooks a bonefish... ...just a little one but we caught 3 others to 3lb. BfG took Garry & Peter to Tarpum Bay where they caught 15 bones! BfG presents Garry with bonefish medal. Garry with a small fish from a big school near the airport The Doc with a bigger one... Then a 'double hook-up'...Peter ends up with 5 and... ...then Garry his 2nd one. lots of fish but few photos were taken in the last few days.

For those who are interested in statistics:

Each angler caught bonefish each week, all on fly, total: 90 averaging just over 2lb - smaller than usual, probably because the bigger fish were often schooled-up with the small fish.

Barry caught 33, BfG 16, Danny 5, Garry 24 & Peter 12.

Garry caught the most bones in one day: 8

BfG caught the heaviest: 5lb, also the smallest: 8oz

BfG had the only flat tyres: 2 in one day, plus a broken fan belt.
