ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, SPRING 2006
(4th March - 17th March)
Saturday 4th March:
BfG & BoneFriday arrive with Ian Rouault (aka BoneAlone), go shopping for beers and other essentials, then the boys are fishing by midday...
Sunday 5th March:
Denis & Elaine Savage, Kevin Styles and the 2 Barrys (BoneIdle & BoneLately) arrive on the early morning flight. Kevin is a bonefish virgin so BfG shows him the ropes...
Meanwhile the Barrys have some excitement when BoneIdle hooks a heavy fish...

BoneAlone, Denis & Elaine find some fish a bit further south...
...and Kevin, BfG & BoneAlone finish up will 2 bones each but Denis and the Barrys are still "boneless".
Monday 6th March:
BfG takes the Barrys to some Atlantic beaches where they catch some pompano and their first bones of the week...
...so now everyone has "boned up" and BfG can relax.
Tuesday 7th March:
Strong westerley wind make the fishing difficult on most of the sea-side flats but BoneIdle catches 2 bones
(awaiting photos).
Wednesday 8th March:
The wind veers to the north east but the fish are still hard to locate. Again, the Barrys are the only ones to catch bonefish (awaiting photos).
Thursday 9th March:
BfG fishes with the Barrys again but a cloudy start makes fish-spotting difficult...
...then it brightened up in the afternoon...
Friday 10th March:
...and the Barrys
each catch 5 bones - a great way to end their week.
Saturday 11th March:
A final group photo before the Barrys leave...
BfG takes new arrivals Ann & Graham Kemp (aka G3) on a tour of the island and finds a school of bonefish on a southern flat...
Meanwhile Denis & Elaine go up north...
...in spite of the disturbance Denis caught one bone and Elaine lost one.
Meanwhile Kevin & BoneAlone find some large schools of fish...
...a total of 25 bones - a great way to start the 2nd week!
Sunday 12th March:
Denis has a very good day with 6 bones from a school and Kevin lands this single...
Monday 13th March:
Meanwhile Denis & Elaine are having fun catching schoolies...
...and Kevin finds some good bones up north...
Tuesday 14th March:
BoneAlone, Kevin & G3 fish some sea-side
flats...
Wednesday 15th March:
The two Grahams take their wives to a remote beach, where there just happen to be some bonefish!...
Meanwhile up north Kevin gets this one...
...and Elaine is showing the boys how to do it, catching a total of 4 bonefish, her best day ever and more than the rest of them put together!
Thursday 16th March:
meanwhile...
After dinner...
Friday 17th March:
Last night at the Inn...
Saturday 18th March:
Week 1 (7 anglers)
Week 1 produced generally fewer (but larger) fish for our group, probably because of heavy pressure from other anglers fishing all the well known "schooling" places during Spring Break. Fortunately all this week's anglers had previous bonefishing experience...
BfG
caught the heaviest bonefish (4¼lb), the most in one day (8 good fish) and the most in the week (15)
Kevin had
the heaviest average size bonefish (3lb+)
BoneIdle
caught the heaviest non-bonefish (a 6lb+ stingray, fairly hooked on fly!)
Total for the
week: 46 bonefish including 13 of 3lb or over.
Week
2 (6 anglers)
Week 2 produced much larger numbers but much smaller fish than the previous week...
Kevin
caught the heaviest bonefish (4lb) and had
the heaviest average size
BoneAlone
caught the most bones
in one day (12)
Denis
caught the most bones (22)
BfG
caught the fewest bones in the week (2) but spent the least time fishing
and the most time coaching,
cooking, shopping, exploring and chillin' with BoneFriday!
Total for Week
1: 73 bonefish including 4 of 3lb or over..
Weeks
1 & 2 combined
BfG
caught the heaviest bonefish (4¼lb) and had
the heaviest average size (2½lb+)
Denis
caught the most bones in a week (22) and the most overall (24)
BoneAlone
caught the most bones
in one day (12)
Kevin caught
the heaviest average size: 3lb+
BoneIdle
caught the heaviest "non-bonefish" (a 6lb+ stingray, fairly hooked on fly!)
Grand
total: 119 bonefish, including 17 of 3lb or over, all caught on fly.
Congratulations to Kevin for excellent results on his 1st ever bonefish trip!
