HOLIDAY PHOTOS & DIARY

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, WINTER 2005

WEEKS 3 & 4 (commenced 26th November 2005)

Saturday 26th Nov. (NE wind):

It's BoneyBennett's first day and he's the only newcomer to Eleuthera so BfG & ChrisG give him the tour...

...meanwhile Geoff & Doc catch 3 bones between them - not bad considering they only flew in that morning!

Sunday 27th Nov. (ESE wind):

Geoff, Doc & ChrisG go to Briland while BfG and Boney go south...

...and on Briland Chris G gets his first two bones of the week.

Monday 28th Nov. (SE wind):

BfG takes Geoff to some wild places he hasn't fished before...

...they then go further south to a secluded bay where BoneFriday can sunbathe...

Tuesday 29th Nov. (ESE wind):

BfG takes Boney to Briland...

...but the flat gets too busy so they adjourn to the conch stall where you can watch this spicy local delicacy being prepared...

...conveniently situated across the street from the liquor store!...

...meanwhile Geoff takes ChrisG & The Doc to a little flat BfG showed him last trip...

Wednesday 30th Nov. (calm at first, gentle breeze later):

Geoff & Doc go north and catch a dozen small bones from a big sand flat, while BfG & BoneFriday chill out, have lunch at Tippy's, and throw flies to a few other species...

Thursday 1st Dec. (Westerley wind):

A fairly quiet day - Chris & Boney caught 3 including this one...

Doc & Geoff saw none, and BfG caught one of 3lb up north.

Friday 2nd Dec. (Northerly wind):

It's Boney's last day. He and Chris decide to go south for the big ones but are unlucky. Meanwhile Doc & Geoff go north and catch 11 bones between them, then back to the Inn for an evening of fine food & frivolity with Dr SeaBreeze...

Saturday 3rd Dec. (NE wind):

Boney has to return to cold wet Blighty after just one week, but his flight is in the afternoon so it would be rude to waste his last morning on Eleuthera...

BfG, Geoff & Doc leave Boney in the capable hands of Chris who will deliver him to the airport on time (after catching 4 bones!)
Up north, near-calm conditions make the fish even more spooky than usual, but BfG sees a tail materialise a few yards away... a quick cast with his new Stealth fly and he's in business...

Sunday 4th Dec. (NE wind):

ChrisG goes south with BfG and gets a good bone of 3
½lb from a mangrove fringed bay. No other fish landed.

Monday 5th Dec. (SSE wind):

BfG & Doc go south with BoneFriday in the morning but don't find any fish, so decide to visit this ocean-side beach for a picnic and swim...

...and even find a few bonefish. BfG managed to hook one and perform a long distance release.
Revitalised, BfG & Doc leave BoneFriday in charge of sunbathing and drive further south to fish the ebb tide on an ocean-side grass flat...

...meanwhile up north ChrisG and Geoff are catching a few bones but have 'cuda trouble...

Tuesday 6th Dec. (SSW wind):

BfG takes Doc to a mangrove fringed flat. The plan is to wait for the bones to come out of the mangrove as the tide ebbs...

...the secret of this sort of fishing is to wait patiently for the bones to come clear of the mangrove before fishing for them or you will almost certainly lose any fish as it retreats into the tangle of mangrove. Even so, de-barbed hooks are essential...

and BfG loses one that decides to swim back into the mangrove.

Wednesday 7th Dec. (ESE wind):

BfG & BoneFriday have a non-fishing day but the others fail to catch so BfG didn't miss anything!

Thursday 8th Dec. (ESE wind with heavy showers):

BfG & Doc walk about a mile before finding some bones, then the skies opened.
By the time the storm passes over the bonefish have all left!

Meanwhile Geoff & ChrisG fish further south in fine weather and catch 6 bones between them.
ChrisG performs around 12 LDRs.

Friday 9th Dec. (ESE wind):

This time it's BfG's turn to go south with ChrisG and catch some bones (BfG: 2, ChrisG: 1) - sorry no boring bone photos today...

...while up north Doc & Geoff get "skunked".

Saturday 10th Dec. (calm):

BfG & Chris catch a last few bones from Gregory Town harbour while the rest of the team do their packing and write some postcards!

...followed by lunch at Tippy's and a last few cold Kaliks,
until the next time.
