HOLIDAY PHOTOS & DIARY

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS, WINTER 2008
(8th November - 5th December)

Please point cursor at photo to see text, then left-click to enlarge in a new window.

Week 1 (8th - 14th Nov)
BfG and Anne (aka BoneFriday) arrive with BoneBoy, BoneGirl, BoneHead, Doc, BoneVet and SavannahMan.
Hurricane Paloma was heading our way but stalled out just East of Cuba. Unfortunately the cloudy weather with rain and strong winds stayed with us for most of the following 3 weeks making the fishing difficult, but the rough weather can actually help produce bigger-than-average bonefish...

Total bonefish this week: 32

Week 2 (15th - 21st Nov)
Same as Week 1 except newcomers Malcolm & Tina arrive Wednesday and the weather improves slightly...

Total bonefish this week: 43

Week 3 (22nd - 28th Nov)
Everyone except BfG Malcolm & Tina depart Saturday, meanwhile BoneAlone, Nigel & Sue arrive, followed by G3 & Ann Wednesday...

Total bonefish this week: 34

Week 4 (29th Nov - 5th Dec)
Malcolm & Tina depart, Geoff T arrives with friends Eddie & Mark, both bone virgins (but not for long)...

Total bonefish this week: 46

For those who are interested in statistics:

Ever since we have had a website we have published lots of statistics regarding weights and numbers of fish caught during our trips, and we have always tried to be truthful about the quantity and sizes of all fish caught. Anglers who have not fished with us before naturally compare our statistics with those of other organisations, many of whom advertise huge catches and monster fish. Most either exaggerate or are selective about what they publish, giving a distorted impression of what you can expect to catch. Few will admit to having clients who have caught only a few small bonefish or no bonefish at all! During the 13 years that we have been hosting Bonefish Adventure flyfishing holidays we have only ever had one client who has failed to catch a bonefish, and he was more interested in "chilling out" than he was in fishing!

Anyway, bonefishing is not a competition (except between you and the bonefish!) so from now onwards the only bonefishing statistics you will find published on these pages will be the total number caught each week. The other boring details regarding who caught the "most" or "biggest" will be replaced by much more interesting stats such as "who consumed the most Goombay Smashes", "who had the most flat tyres" or "who lost the most money at cards".

So here are the new stats for this trip:

Bonefish caught on fly: 155

Bone-less anglers: 0

Bone-less days: 0

Bits & Pieces: needlefish, pompano, trigger fish, box fish, snappers, cudas and assorted jacks, mostly caught on fly.

Ann Kemp (now aka Bonefish Ann), our only lady angler this trip, caught a nice bonefish on her first and only attempt!

For the 3rd year in a row BoneHead consumed the most Long Island Iced Teas.

BoneAlone claimed to have had his head cut off the most times (in photos of course, where else?)

Mark fished in the rain for the longest time without a raincoat: 5 hours.

BoneAlone had the most vehicles break down: 2, yet still managed to accumulate the largest number of empty beverage containers in each car!

BfG lost or damaged the largest number of battery powered devices: 6 (but he was there for 4 weeks!)

Majic Princess (the Rainbow Inn's new "Chew & Release" dog) stole the most fishing socks: 7 (but most were eventually released unharmed).

Why not join us on our next Bonefish Adventure and see your photos on our Holiday Photos & Diary
pages?
Many of our clients return year after year, not because they catch lots of big fish, but because stalking bonefish on foot is a challenge, and so much more rewarding when you succeed without the help of a professional guide. Another reason is that they prefer not to be committed to a rigid timetable of getting into a boat and fishing for 6 hours every day, while letting the guide find the fish and make all the decisions!

However, don't worry if you are not an experienced bonefisher - most newcomers will fish with Graham or one of our "regulars" for the first few days to gain experience, usually by practicing on smaller bonefish in schools of "happy fish" before learning how to stalk the more wary, larger bones.
